“While browsing YouTube one evening I realized it was called Instructional Design.”
I pursued an ESL career throughout Southeast Asia because an environment that had inspired my creativity also provided space for exploration in information, instruction, and experiences. Although I enjoyed building relationships with various Subject Matter Experts looking to advance their career through English, the more I sought to integrate my talent for visual design, the more I felt as though I was “majoring in the minors” as an educator.
Hoping to find an adjacent role where visual design is more valued, I sought input from online articles and career experts to put a name to an aspect of my work I prized more. Interestingly, my proactive search wasn’t nearly as successful as an open-minded one; while browsing YouTube one evening I realized it was called Instructional Design.

As a student and instructor, I remain teachable and support learners in exercising key skills and resources for the next chapter in their career through the collaboration and development of effective learning solutions. By pursuing a different angle in my own career, I aim to employ more of my talents and abilities through learning design to continue upbuilding my community with creative methods for learning materials that increase the workers’ value and the organization’s impact.
Steps
“I support learners in exercising key skills and resources…”
My involvement in the global educational community has cultivated an edge for investigation. As an Expatriate, I have maintained a practiced habit of pursuing other angles in research and experience. Coupled with my introspective personality, this allows me to quickly pinpoint key problems for effective solutions communicated through creative methods to foster wiser learners.

When I’m not reflecting on learning experiences for others, I have my own. I often change gears by reading about other cultures, planning trips, and experimenting with different styles and mediums in my artwork. Moreover, I love to couple my hobbies with background noise from online interviews, docuseries, dramas, and scary movies.
